Intramedullary Tumors

Intramedullary tumors occur within the spinal cord and are rare neoplasms that can lead to severe neurological deterioration, decreased function, and poor quality of life as time passes. These tumors require surgical removal to prevent future problems as they grow. Presentation of these tumors can be subtle, progressive, or acute.

Symptoms

Tumors in these areas can cause symptoms such as:
  • Low back pain
  • Numbess and tingling in legs
  • Weakness in the legs
  • Problems with bowel or bladder control

How we Treat Intramedullary Tumors

How we can help

Most often surgery is required to remove these tumors as imaging after removal gives us a more precise diagnosis. Occasionally small tumors can be monitored through imaging, but more than not will eventually require surgical removal.
